It's been a while since I've done a one on one DH shoot, I met Daniel Saunders at Tokai & took a walk up into the forest. There have been quite a lot of changes to the track, some maintenance & some erosion I nearly didn't recognise any of the track.
We stopped off at a nice fast corner to start with & Dan was so fast & smooth he hardly picked up any dust & had to rail into it a bit more to get a little trail behind him. Richard Argent & a friend were flying past a few times & got a few loose shots of them.
We made our way further down & saw Myles & Mark on their way up. A quick stop at a strange rooted, step like corner that looked quite interesting, it took a bit of fiddling, but turned out way nicer than I had anticipated.
The light was fading fast & there was still one thing we needed to get to. A little hip in the lower section that was now nicely backlit by the sun that was a few millimetres away from disappearing behind the mountain. A few tries to get things where we wanted & as we were done, Vince, Kendal & Matt came past. I got a shot of Vince on the hip just as the sun dipped behind a cloud & has such a different feeling in the middle of all the sunny shots.
This shoot made me realise I really miss this side of DH. Races are cool, but being able to chat to the rider & keep trying until you're both happy makes such a big difference. I will definitely be doing more of this this year, so keep an eye out for more DH action!
