I had an amazing opportunity to shoot a mother scorpion with all her babies still clinging to her back & had to make the most of it.
We presented a macro workshop this weekend & our last shoot was at Butterfly World on Sunday morning. As we were leaving Esther (Head Chief of BFW) came up to my mom & I & told us she had something quite special in her office & that it was quite delicate, so just the 2 of us could go. In her office she put a box on the table & slowly opened it to reveal the little family of scorpions. I had never seen this in person & was super excited to get some shots of them, but we had to keep to the tight schedule of the Workshop & got back to process images.
I went back on Tuesday so I could do the little guys justice & am so glad I did. They had already gone a shade darker in only two days. Just watching them & seeing the amazing detail on the tiny babies was fascinating & just watched through the lens for a while. She calmed down & got used to all of us hovering around quite quickly & allowed me to get some really nice close detail shots on the almost translucent young.
Thanks to Esther & her team for helping me, I always come away from there with a bit more knowledge on the little creatures, which make me appreciate them that bit more.
